healthcare on the road

WHAT MEDICAL INSURANCE DO YOU have?

Phil retired from the Navy, so our insurance is through the military. The plan we chose is Tricare Select. It allows us to choose our physicians, and we don’t need referrals. Tricare Select does have higher costs than other military plans, but it allows us to keep our preferred physicians.

Do you use the VA?

We do not use the VA system for our medical care. We have been using civilian providers and decided to keep them after Phil retired.

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS?

We use Walgreens for our prescriptions. It is the pharmacy contracted with our insurance company. Walgreens will transfer our prescriptions from our home location to Walgreens across the country when we need a refill.

Although our insurance encourages mail-order prescriptions, we do not use them because it is a pain to worry about navigating delivery because we move so frequently.

**PLEASE NOTE: Not all prescriptions are transferable. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS?

All of our physicians are in San Antonio. We return every six months for appointments. Phil has chronic issues with his back that require frequent appointments and procedures. We plan our travels around these appointments.

What do you do if you have a medical emergency while traveling?

In the event of an emergency, we would check to see which local ER, hospital, or urgent care took our insurance and b-line it to that facility. We use our RV Emergency Magnet so we always have this information before we actually need it!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH STACY'S NECK?

Stacy has several benign nodules on her thyroid, which her physician follows. It is only cosmetic.
